Wen LiuLiu Wen, 28, has had a lot of firsts: the world’s first Asian supermodel labeled by CNN, China’s first bona fide supermodel awarded by The New York Times, the first model of East Asian descent to walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show from 2009 to 2012. She's also the first Asian model signed by the cosmetics giant Estee Lauder as its global spokesperson since 2010 and the highest Asian record holder(NO.3) on the Top 50 Women Models List by models.com.
She debuted on the international catwalks in 2008, which is the time that many high profile fashion brands had begun to pay fervent attention to the Chinese market. She walked 74 shows for Fall 2009 and 70 shows in the Spring 2010 season, which made her the second-most-booked runway model that year. In 2013, Liu Wen became the highest paid model in Asia and the fifth in the world with earnings of $4.3 million, according to Forbes. The rank remained the same, but the money she earned rose to 7 million in 2014. Last year, although her income shrunk back to 4.5 million, she joined a popular Chinese TV show "We Are In Love" and gained even more fans. Her power on social media should not be neglected. Now, she has over 1.6 million followers on Instagram and more than 14 million on Weibo (Chinese Twitter). |
